Welcome to singing lessons!

I offer fun, science-informed, and body-based Online Singing Lessons in Surrey BC (with some in-person lessons available). Lessons are tailored toward your age, stage, and interests.

Singing is a learned physical and auditory skill ⎯ similar to how we learn to dance, or play sports.

I offer lessons for pre-professional, professional, or recreational singers, usually from age 7 and up.

My students learn to sing healthily, with clarity and ease in various styles including pop, electronica, music theatre, country, blues or rock and classical.

My aim in all vocal exercises and repertoire coaching is to
increase your ability to fully express your lyrics and the musical and emotional state of your songs, as appropriate for your musical style.

Singing requires:
  • Normal speech and hearing, muscle memory, and physical co-ordination
  • Regular use of vocal exercises, as well as practicing songs
  • Your listening and memorization skills!

In healthy singing we strive for:
  • Strengthening your voice across it's whole vocal range, aiming for a steady, clear, and beautiful tone
  • Connecting the breath to a stable tone by using a steady, slower exhale.
  • Singing with ease and stability, in a variety of volumes, across the vocal range

Various levels of singers accepted:
  • Advanced, Professional or Pre-Professional Singers - these singers and performers are assisted with refining and improving their chosen vocal style(s) and may request weekly lessons, or short-term training packages.
  • Pre-Teen, Teen, or Intermediate Singers  - these singers are encouraged "cross-train" in different styles as appropriate for their voice, age and/or type in weekly lessons. Cross-training is an approach for young people to leave all their musical avenues open - so we do some beginner classical, RCM, Music Theatre, pop or rock styles, or refine and perform original songs. Also, we work on the singer's musicianship and ear-training skills to assist with life-long music-making.
  • Beginner and Recreational Singers - of all ages! - these singers learn to sing on pitch, keep a steady tempo, move freely with the music, explore various musical styles, and sing songs which match the singers' age and skill-level.
  • Children's Weekly Lessons - offered for kids (typically age 6 and up) who can read. Kid's lessons include age-appropriate vocal skills as well as foundational musicianship skills, which are embedded in a playful and systemized approach to singing.

Possible outcomes of your lessons:
  • Audition for university music programs, musical theatre productions
  • Sing in a choir
  • Perform with a band
  • Sing in yearly recitals
  • Study for voice exams for secondary school credits, sing at festivals, or other competitions
  • Perform in theatrical shows at a professional, or pre-professional levels
  • Develop a group of songs you can comfortably perform with other musicians, or "jam" with family and friends
